A Key Stage 3 source and evidence study: why did Edward I build castles in Wales, and what did they mean for the Welsh? Six short quoted sources with provenance, including the Llanfaes townspeople’s petition, an evidence table, a primary-source reading, source-detective tasks on where Cadw’s own pages disagree, a change-and-continuity task, a judgement question and full answers.

What’s inside:

- Background: princes, a king and a conquest

- Glossary

Drawings are simplified impressions: not photographs or copies of real objects, buildings or maps, not to scale, and not copied from any plan, print, photo or book, or from any guidebook or site plan. Not affiliated with Cadw, the Welsh Government, UNESCO or the Department for Education. Their names are used only to identify the sources we quote.
