Space Escape Room: Printable Planet Puzzle Game for Kids
Locked in on a space station, and the shuttle home won’t start! This printable escape room game has five puzzles, eight planet data cards and a launch code to crack before the shuttle has to leave. Every planet number in the game is real, taken from NASA’s Planetary Fact Sheet.
How it works:
- Print the game, cut out the data cards and put each puzzle in its own envelope (about 10 minutes)
- Players read the data cards to solve each puzzle. Each answer opens a lock on the lock board, and the game master hands over the next envelope
- Puzzle 5 leads to the launch code
The five puzzles:
1. Line Up the Planets: put all eight planets in order from the Sun
2. Hot and Cold: sort five planets from hottest to coldest
3. The Station Count: count the planets with rings, the planets with no moons and the moons of Mars
4. The Giant Planet: how many Earths fit across Jupiter?
5. The Star Code: decode a message written in space symbols
The eight data cards: Saturn, Mars, Neptune, Earth, Jupiter, Mercury, Uranus and Venus. Each card gives the distance from the Sun, width, length of a day, length of a year, average temperature, number of moons, whether it has rings, and a “Did you know?” fact.
Also included: game master guide, mission briefing to read aloud, lock board, 10 hint cards, an escape certificate and an answer key.
Suggested ages 7 to 12, for 1 to 6 players per copy. It takes about 45 to 60 minutes to play. Great for a space party, a rainy afternoon or a classroom.
Files: one zip with the A4 PDF (15 pages), the US Letter PDF and a read-me.
Printing: print at 100% / actual size. Colour looks best, but everything works in black and white.
Where the facts come from: NASA’s Planetary Fact Sheet (nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov), page last updated 18 March 2025, checked 3 November 2026. Moon counts change as new moons are found; the cards use the counts on that page. The space station and its commander are made up. Not endorsed by NASA.
