Story Collector’s Field Journal
A story collector’s field journal for ages 9+ and families: learn to ask permission, record a story in the teller’s own words, keep what was said separate from what you think, compare two versions of a tale and map where your stories came from.
What’s inside:
- How to collect a story: ask first, write their words, keep three layers, keep it private (with adult notes)
- Three two-page story records (what was said / what I observed & what I think)
- Two versions of one tale: comparison table
- Where did my stories come from? Story map
- Credits, licence & sources
Pages: 11 (including cover and credits). Sizes: A4 (210 × 297 mm) and US Letter (8.5 × 11 in), both included as PDF.
Who it’s for: Ages 9+ and families · history projects, family history and oral-history clubs.
Printing: Print at 100% / actual size on A4 or US Letter. Inside pages use light backgrounds and print well in black and white; covers are dark, so start from page 2 to save ink.
Tales, not facts: every tale is retold in our own words from Sophia Morrison’s Manx Fairy Tales (1911, public domain) and clearly labelled as a tale or belief, not history. Real-world facts (dates, customs and places) were checked on 26 October 2026 against Manx National Heritage, Manx Music (Culture Vannin) and manx.folklore.im, and every source is listed on the credits page. All drawings are REALLYBYTE’s own artwork; no copyrighted pictures are used.
Licence: personal and single-classroom use. You may print as many copies as you need for your own family or your own class, and share it with your class through a password-protected platform. Please don’t resell, re-upload or share it publicly. For school-wide use, please email info@reallybyte.com.
